So i got a promotion today.
It’s curious… I often wonder how people feel in these situations..
See, I had my review with my boss about 1 month ago. It was unofficial… as she was leaving on maternity leave for 4 months… so it was more of a “lets discuss your progress” review. in that review, I mentioned… when she returns… I will request for a promotion.
Technically, nothing can be said at that time as its “unofficial”. So, she did what was right, and just listened and said that if i wish to, of course we can discuss when she returns. all appropriate. HOWEVER.. for the promotion to come through today (1 month later), she must have already put a request in for me.
Meaning… she knew when I talked to her, that she already requested a promotion for me. She had to be politically correct as it was not approved yet, and not leak any information that was uncomfirmed… but… she already knew. yet… legally, she is not allowed to say anything, as it may get rejected or information could be misrepresented….
yet… she knew. I wonder how that felt for her? I mean… everyone deals with such things… i just often wonder… how each person deals with it on a personal level.
did she go home and talk to her husband about it?
did she just forget it?
did she laugh inside at the irony of it all?
did she just go through the motions and call it “part of the day”?
mind you, this is nothing negative … it’s all standard policy in any company, and well should be, as who knows what can happen. each manager needs to divulge information only when its able to be substantiated… otherwise, legal issues can come up… just… wonder how she felt in her situation.
For me? I would talk about it with someone. i WOULDNT say details… so nothing could be leaked…but i know i would talk….
