So, let’s continue regarding this topic….
The last time we left off… we discussed how big corporations formed… from the grass roots of regular tradesmen.
So, wouldn’t that conceivably be that the people that make up corporations, are not actually “evil” like the media or public perception comes off? Could we agree that pretty much NO ONE in a company is purely evil? ok, enron-esque guys aside.. the regular company is led by regular people… trying to apply what they know to a given environment… in exchange for compensation.
I can tell you from experience… being part of the “machine” is not a person sitting there, thinking how they can screw the little guys. Its, sitting or standing, in your role… and trying desperately to make sense of the paperwork and ringing phones… to turn it into a dollar figure compensation based on your studies in college. You just want to get through the day, and say you learned something. however, EVEN managers are doing the same thing. only about 1% of what people in a company do, seems to be related to promoting the corporate mindset. In fact, the majority of the company, could be seen as autonomous and acting on its own inertia.
So, if thats the case… how does this relate to customers?
Well, if customers are indipendent people, and corporations are indipendent “machines”… then where does that put the customer service guy? honestly, it seems to put them in a position where they are NOT trying to help the company move forward, but are either trying to get you to shut up, or… they are just looking to get a higher pay. The end result, is no motivation to help either the customer or the company.
We could discuss the point futher by explaining how we can change and motivate these people… but thats not the point of this …
Instead, lets see how we can take advantage of the situation!
to be continued….
