The movie starts with our protagonist, Colin, on the floor staring directly into the camera. Exacerbated. Tired. Worn. Desperate. You see, Colin is in quite a predicament. He found out his wife has left him for another man. To make matters worse…. For the other man…. Colin is a man that has friends in violent circles. And he has just bloodied and kidnapped the man who has been shagging his wife. Now his friends and Colin have the man locked away in a closet, tied, gagged, and bleeding. They are left with only one question…. How to properly get rid of this man. And mind you, they are not men that think twice about murdering innocent bystanders…. Much less a wife stealer.
What’s interesting about the whole bit is the way this movie plays out. I could say this movie is either a suspense or drama. There is no action or intense suspense scenes. But the dialogue; marred with strong Brit accents, is spot on. It’s rattling, jarring, and makes you guess every moment what will come next.
The cast is full of memorable characters….. I wish more directors would take ques from this practice of hiring decent actors that can deliver amazing lines with even more amazing grace and elegance.
The scenery and art direction of the movie plays out in only a few areas but with a consistent theme in colors and art direction. No complaints there. Decent sharpness with video that is relatively crisp.
I do have to say that while this story is amazing and the execution of the buildup is quite good, I wish for two things:
1) SOMETHING Should happen. Some action or something to solidify that these are hardened killers. Sure the actors do a good job of representing said personalities, but since this movie is made for the more eloquent European market… Not for us vulgar Americans I’m left with constant insinuations as to what happened,…. As opposed to any real blood on the screen…. This is just my view as a vulgar American…. Yet… Hey…. It’s my view….
2) less talking. Again with the view as an American. Good dialogue. Alright, I get it… They are great actors….. But c’mon already!
As a movie… This was good. Great. As an entertainment piece? I’d say you gotta be in a certain mood. Goodfellas with college degrees and no violence kinda mood… Plus some thinking.. This movie gets the noggin going.. If you watch it…. Ask yourself…. What would YOU do?
Rating ….. 8 out of 10
