Man, does Tekken 6 break my heart.
The Tekken franchise was, for a long time, my favorite fighting game series. In fact, it was my favorite… until I just played Tekken 6… just now. Yep… in 2 hours of gameplay, it’s no longer my “favorite”.
Ok, let me backtrack… the game is NOT horrible. It just does NOTHING to develop the gameplay and mechanics from previous games. Tekken 5 came out almost 2 years ago. They’ve had time to friggin BLOW my mind… yet … they just came out with a mediocre game.
So, the fighting system is the same. The high, mid, low combo style is still there, and all of the animations and fighting mechanics and juggles are the same. The graphics, while NOT next gen… appear to be somewhere between last gen and current generation. Weak. Lame.
The story makes no sense. Thus difficult to get involved in and the characters aren’t fully fleshed out.
Now i’m not saying a fighting game has to have fleshed out characters or a story. it doesn’t. But if the game makes you watch 10 minute storylines every few seconds… it should at least engross you and bring you INTO the story. Tekken 6 does not.
Instead of spending their resources on the fight mechanics, the physics, and the graphics… they spent it on adding stupid little “campaign” modes where you run around and fight bad guys in a field… without all the moves of each character. What’s the point of this? i don’t know. but apparently you can unlock MORE scenematics that make no sense.
I have to say the actual fighting mechanics… while not changed… have held up well and still good.
Online mode lags tremendously. That should have been fleshed out more too.
I’ll be getting rid of this game
I give it a 6 out of 10.
