“Are you on drugs?”
“Yes…. “
I’ve been meaning to watch this movie for a while… but haven’t had the chance to …. thus why i love long flights… get to catch up on movies i haven’t been able to see in a long time.
Basically,….Lester, the main character leads what he believes is a dull life. in fact, it’s an ordinary, uneventful life. He joins a medical testing program to try out a new drug that’s going on the market “Special”.
It’s never explained what the drug is SUPPOSED to do for him… but he develops powers immediately. he can fly. he becomes telepathic… he can run through walls… teleport… invincibility….
in reality… he’s hallucinating. he uses american comic books to escape his mundane life, and thus uses this drug to realize the dreams he’s always longed for to become real.
When he runs through walls, he actually runs INTO walls… his head is bruised, face gets smashed… etc.
Yet, he cannot seem to realize he has no powers. He goes on these “missions” to save people… and stop crimes… in turn getting hurt himself… and harming innocents.
I think the movie was mildly entertaining… slightly funny… when it shouldn’t be. and at times depressing… to see a man reduced emotionally to such a state….
as far as acting goes… the main character did a good job. the story was written well enough and the idea was original enough… however… it was just NOT engaging. I felt constantly… not caring.
i’d give this 5 out of 10. completely mediocre… but a few points for originality and some harring moments.
