So I just bought a macbook pro lately… the cheapest one, of the unibody aluminum macs….
Overall i see why apple is catching steam and quite popular. the interface is sleek and if you are a new PC user, a mac is easier to learn than a windows machine. they also are a bit more stable…(and i have seen crashes)….
here’s the rundown…
PROS :
– runs clean on a small disk usage and doesn’t take up resources. even a low end macbook runs fast and doesn’t hang as much as low end WINDOWS machines.
– as a laptop this thing gets great battery life
– good screen, bright, accurate colors, great contrast
– the touchpad kicks ass. i tried using a mouse with it… no point. touchpad works like iphone and the navigation beats a mouse… for ANYTHING except detailed photo or image editing work…. you lose precision. but for navigating the computer… UNBEATABLE.
– sleek design, small …. thin
– feels durable
– runs windows…. natively.
– easy to use interface
CONS :
– mac osx is not that well organized… they depend on metatags too much…. and don’t have the mentality that the user should organize things. while this works in theory… the reality is that metatags are not forever… and different programs interpret the info differently. this could cause organization done today… to no longer be able to find stuff in the future .
– drivers in windows are weak… some stuff has to be tweaked and fidgeted.
– runs windows natively, but notice slowdowns sometimes…. feels like the system is not optimized to use windows. even its all windows compatible parts.
– apple has a nasty habit of not letting users do what they want… everything in the os x feels like steve jobs is holding your hand and telling you to go down this hallway… and don’t look at any other doors. this works for most people… but if you want to tweak and optimize… go with windows.
overall i’m happy. good system…. just take it for what it is….
i’ve learned that windows and os x is just two different machines. not better… not worse. jsut different. both have their uses…. this is a normal concept in most technology…. just the APPLe marketing campaign seems to want you to think they are better. they serve different markets and are NOT better. i’d say a mac is more like an “appliance”… like a microwave… and a Windows is more like a tool… like a power saw cutter….
