CHAKA CHAKA CHAKA!
So this is actually a comedic take with Will Ferrell as the main protagonist in a remake of Land of the Lost.
I LOVE Will Ferrell… and his style of comedy. This movie was a good representation of what makes Will funny, however it may not be his BEST work (still no competition to Ron Burgundy’s Anchorman). But between insisting that he is a genius, and making fun of dinosaurs while in earshot, to continuously getting high in the middle of the desert as the only solution to survival…. Will’s Dr. Rick Marshall pulls off the character splendidly. The cheap special effects are obviously done on purpose, and the acting is great quality…. for what this movie is supposed to be.
This movie was directed by Brad Silberling… (City of Angels, Felicity, 10 items or Less)… and I can’t help feeling that Will and Brian were not such a great match. Some of the slapstick / stupid humor, while carried by the supporting cast quite nicely… seems to tug in situations where it seems the director wants you to “feel” something for the story. this is just a NO-NO ….. Much less when Will and Danny McBride are involved (Foot Fist Way).
Some reviews have complained that the movie somehow INSULTS the original story… in that making it so lighthearted is a mockery…. I don’t know the original story… so no insult in my opinion… just good fun.
Man am I jealous of Danny McBride ending up with all the hot babes….
and yes… the picture is of the original Chaka…
