I just finished this game. Overall very good. In the media there are mixed reviews of this game, but overall it was received positively.
Mirror’s Edge is …. well… revolutionary in many ways. It takes the concepts of Prince Of Persia… or Ninja Gaiden…. the running… jumping… fast paced motion capture and agility… that thrilling feel of speed and wind rushing against your face…. takes it from a 3rd person point of view… and moves the camera into first person. Looks initially like a first person shooting game… except that guns are ALMOST NEVER used. the predominant weapon… is your speed and ability to climb and move across the futuristic metropolis like a monkey. dodging bullets and police all the way scurrying through ducts and bouncing off walls.
The concept of the characters, world, and game… are based off the french sport Parkour… which is garnering more and more world-wide acclaim.
Overall the game is good. The concept was executed beautifully. the graphics amazing… characters and acting done well. Story is simple… but flows ok… and the action is inttense. the most important part… the moving… is … i’d say 85% good. When you move… when you know where you’re going… it’s great. you feel a rush… the game world… the buildings… glass… windows… wind… zooms by… the techno soundtrack of the game pumps faster and faster…. until you turn a corner, and smack face first into a ttrash can, get a bullet in your ass, and fall flat on your back. all of a sudden the fun stops and you’re confused…. Like a drug… this game makes you want to keep chasing that rush… that high of constant motion.
This is the closest i’ve seen a game get to catering to an adrenaline junkie’s fix.
GOOD :
graphics are great
music is great
acting is good
story is smooth and makes sense
motion and controls are good
I personally like the length. 6 hours is fine. many complain its too short… perfect for me.
BAD :
there is a bit of clipping and sometimes Faith will grab things that she shouldn’t
The lack of people in the city… make it feel dead… like a wasteland. why such tall buildings if no one there?
While the action is fast paced, the random stopping cause of a poorly designed level in order to reorient yourself is daunting
the levels do become similar and can get repetitive.
