Wooo… first day in japan!
Yokoso!
I walked around ikebukuro last night… just walked around and checked things out at night…
I’ve noticed 2 large changes…
1) i’m being approached by japanese now to be asked to enter health bars and fuzoku places. This is very strange. 3 years ago, foreigners were not allowed in these places. The reasoning was that they don’t understand the system and will therefor cause problems if they get drunk. they are not allowed to have sex with the girls… just touch… and possibly a blowjob (depends on the type of club).
So i asked why am i allowed or being invited now… worse yet… why are they negotiating with me? The one guy i asked this question to said that because i speak japanese he feels its ok for me to go in. So what?!?!? 3 years ago it didn’t matter.
2) I’ve noticed that japanese no longer are “enamored” by foreigners. decensitized in tokyo? i’m not sure why… as they have seen foreigners for many many years… why just in the past 3 years have they become more comfortable? maybe desperation in the new troubled economy has aroused some form of survival instinct. mind you i’m not saying they are friendly. in this situation… 3 years ago… i walk down the street… and low level mafia guys would MOVE out of my way… now… even girls block my path and lookat me like “you move, foreigner!”
These two things are NOT big problems… i mean… other countries are just as aggresive… and depends on situation… but… i NEVER saw this type of stoic aggression from japanese. they seem to speak their mind more and bemore mindful of their own human rights.
I’m not complaining mind you… i’m just curious what caused this and what kind of implications it has in their lifestyle…
