so i got an iphone…. there’s definitely things i love… and things i hate… time will tell which one wins….
the first thing people who look into the iphone should realize and look at it as :
ITS NOT A PORTABLE MAC/PC replacement. Where most Smartphones, such as those created by Palm, Dell, HP, or HTC strive to be… the iphone does NOT try to be a smartphone. it tries to be something… BUT NOT A PC REPLACEMENT.
I would summarize what it tries to be in a combination of three things :
1) a phone – which it does very well
2) an Ipod (note… NOT AN MP3 PLAYER! but an IPOD… there is a difference and the IPHONE pretty much is the opitamy of how ipods are NOT mp3 players)
3) a web browser (once again… does very very well).
– cannot take video with camera.
– cannot send picture to text message (only to email)
– when send email… cannot ATTACH picture. you have to go first to picture… find it… then say “send email”
– cannot download pictures or save pictures from website…
– cannot copy documents to iphone… ONLY jpg, movie, and music. so if i have file i wanna save on phone…. not possible.
– EVERYTHING has to be through ITUNES… and itunes on windows is SOOOOOO SLOW….
– call quality is soso… but not great. sometimes drops call
– cannot add memory card to increase size
what’s good?
– there are buttons for stuff directly on screen…
like, i can push 2 buttons, and i’m in google maps seeing downtown san francisco– i can get driving directions and satelite image LIVE.
– there is button for movies directly… in 10 seconds i can get list of what movies are playing in san francisco.
– i can view websites very well… any website almost… big screen… good zoom… i can view so simple….
– send email is REALLY simple and easy to use…. but ONLY for sending email. means no attachments and no spell check….
– weather and time and alarms are really well put together….
– while cannot do memory card – it COMES WITH 8 gb…. there is no memory card so big available anywayt for phones! its huge!
– there is buttons DIRECTLY to downlowd any itunes song… view youtube anytime, and check podcasts. Every morning CNN news comes in and i can view the news on BIG screen of iphone…. no other phone can do this. podcasts are faster and smoother than any other type of media….
– ability to use as ipod is amazing. very good sound and loud and clear….
basically… the BASIC functions that someone wants in a phone… are available.and they are done really well. REALLY well… especially for entertainment. but for business… its… missing many features. eventually they can creatte… but… will take time.
overall i’m happy with it… but i definitely agree there are flaws. a LOT of them. I will be returning it.
the lack of features FAR OUTWEIGH the things it can do… which is namely interface. if this phone had come out 5 years ago… it would have been a godsend. but… now… its just… doing what phones 5 years ago could do but doing it better.
