Flying into Thailand this year was arduous. First, if you ever fly to Thailand… Or Asia… I recommend avoiding any of the Chinese airlines… At least as of 2016. They are horrible. If you see those cheap rates… Don’t be fooled. No matter the airline, you will likely have a 1 stop layover… If you are flying from USA. And if you fly a Chinese airline… You will likely have to stop in china mainland somewhere. If you get HK you are lucky… But most likely you’ll get Shanghai or Guangzhou.First, your Chinese airline will likely be delayed. So, you might miss your connecting flight. And no, they won’t put you up in a hotel. They’ll rebook you on another flight… Also, the layover will likely be in a dark, deserted, airport that has no electricity, nor lights, and seems like it’s been abandoned by civilization. With military shuffling around screaming in the dark… The ones with guns. You just huddle quietly in a dark corner and pray none of them decide a random body in the dark is a target. Eventually you’ll get on a flight and be on your way… Realizing you’ve lost almost 4 days of your trip with the time difference and layover and delays. Oh and on top of that.. The stewardess are likely to yell at you, hit you, and don’t be surprised if other Chinese passengers poke and prod you and take your stuff while you fall asleep (if you are white).
Fortununately, this time around…I did NOT FLY any of the Chinese airlines. The above mentioned horror… I experienced 4 times already in the past 5 years… Because I repeatedly flew on them, constantly thinking they’d be different the next time. Nope. Same each time.
This time I flew Philippines airlines. MUCH better. Staff speaks English, the food is decent, and there’s a decent amount of leg room in coach. Also, when you do layover… They are on time, as well as give you a more personal touch. They take you in small groups and make sure you get to the next flight terminal. They are a bit disorganized, but… No big deal.
Also the pilots are ex Philippino Air Force. So if the plane ends in a dog fight… You know you are safe.
Now if we could just do something about the stewardesses being hotter… But that’s ok… I’ll take good service over looks any day.
After landing… Off to Bangkok airways to meet Emi… My old boss! Super excited. We are heading to Koh Samui.
How did I meet emi? 16 years ago, she hit on me in a club… Bought me a drink in Tokyo… Then helped me get my life in japan settled and helped me build my resume. She’s one of my closest friends and someone I love partying with. She may be in her 50s… But she knows how to throw down HARD. She can be smashed drunk and negotiate with a hooker, while ordering drinks, and making sure the food is cooked right when they bring it out so as to avoid bacteria poisoning… PLUS she LOVES to bring her own bottled water to strip clubs to get them to freeze it and make clean ice.
One of the odd things I did notice… A Chinese couple came to sit with us… And we had one open seat…. So the guy let his wife sit with 2 total strangers…while he went and grabbed an entire row to himself. Talk about chivalry. Guess it never existed in china.
Got picked up at the koh Samui airport. Niiiiiccceeee… With a sign and everything.
I was supposed to go on this trip with my girlfriend. We broke up recently and I’m bummed she’s not here with me. I had my whole life planned to be with her. I’m not gonna go into what happened or brought me to us not being together… But I love and miss her. I really wish she was here to experience this with me. She would have looked BANGING at this koh Samui resort… In her bikini with her nice body and tattoos glistening with water under the moonlight. I’ve always wanted a trophy wife like her… She’s just ridiculously hot and everything she does is elegant and beautiful. Her smile makes me melt. But of course… She’s raised American… And even on our talk on my layover …s he made a comment about Philippines being gross. And I got mad. I have this thing… I don’t know what it is… But I can’t stand people from good backgrounds… Putting other poor culture down. And you know what? She grew up hard too.. Yet somehow…. Because she grew up in America.. I automatically associate her as spoiled. Somehow I have this stigma that a person having a USA citizenship means they got a lucky break in life… And anything negative out of their mouth is like a #firstworldproblems meme to me. I know that’s unfair and I reacted very badly…but … Ugh. I just hope it’s something we get through someday. Sure she should be more open minded and see different perspectives… But I know I shouldn’t be so judge mental myself…
Anyway… Back to koh Samui…….. Oh by the way… Philippine airlines food… Decent… But… Man do they love sugar and carbs. First there’s rice, with some sweet stuff on it…the beef is sweet… The fish is sweet… The salad? Potatoes!!!! Oh and then there’s pasta salad…. With like… Some sugary salad dressing on A SINGLE LEAFE OF LETTUCE…. And I don’t mean a big one… I mean like a rose petal sized lettuce leaf. And THEN a loaf of bread… Which is of course battered in raisins and sugar… Followed by cream pudding!!!! Man it was delicious… But I don’t even wanna think about the calories. My vegetarian neighbor had the same… Minus the beef. So yeah. Hope you like carbs and sugar.
