The new OS x for mac is out in Beta….Apple OS X Mountain Lion 10.8
While it’s a beta, and not much of it is fully functional yet… Apple has made clear the direction they are going in, as well as the functionality that will be added with this new update.
The major changes and updates that I am excited about are as follows (FYI 10.8 is expected to be out sometime this summer) :
– iMessage : Finally this is coming to the desktop! Now we can send messages to any apple device. Basically you can text your friends with iphones/ipads/ipod touch directly from the computer.
– Reminders : these are now in their own app, and no longer part of the calendar it seems. This is cool because they can finally be used as a proper to-do list. I’ve been using third-party apps to make my grocery lists until now….
– Share Sheets : now you can share stuff, like web pages DIRECTLY from your browser in your computer. The way you do on your iphone, when you share a link to a site…. You now don’t need to copy paste links… just MESSAGE a link directly from the browser and it’ll pop up on people’s iphones (TWITTER will be directly integrated)
– Airplay : I use airplay a bit on my iphone and ipad to throw music and video as well as show what I’m doing on my ipad directly to my TV. NOW you can do that directly with the computer. I expect this to be VERY useful.
