Had an interesting conversation with a few friends lately. The topic came up initially when I had mentioned how … Well to be blunt… Unattractive… Nay…. Hideous I find the lead actress in SEX and the CITY… and don’t understand why she would be cast on television… I mean Carrie Bradshaw looks like the bottom of a foot to me. Now, I could say that’s the actress in the role she is playing…. And not the actual person… Whether my beliefs are mirrored by others is besides the point and NOT the question at hand. What was interesting though was, many of my female friends claimed that they found her cute….
My guy friends? Most wouldn’t comment.
So then the next point was… If the show caters to women…. It makes sense the directorial powers that be would choose someone that appeals to women…. Ok… Women Ike cute …. Fine. But don’t women also like men? Don’t women want to attract men and wear fashion … Trends that are appealing to men? Men like sexy…. Sultry…. Beautiful…. If not sometimes bold…. Clearly no… Women do not want this attention necessarily. That was a rhetorical question!
The same way men “like” the notion of a tomboy… But not necessarily someone who will beat the crap out of them….
So what makes Carrie Bradshaw so popular? Is it her trials and tribulations on the show? She has a decent job… Is indipendent… A healthy love life…. So what makes her so attractive and fit for the role? Well it might just be exactly why men DON’T find her attractive. She is flawed, and yet still has everything or on the verge of gaining everything women covet. Had she been drop dead gorgeous… Women viewers not only wouldn’t be able to connect with her character but would even envy her and find refuge in that Carrie Bradshaw has everything BECAUSE she is beautiful.
Then it dawned on me… this is a trait where women are more visual than men! Sure… Men will talk to a girl if she is pretty… Men will ignore the ugly girl at the party… Fine.. But you know what men WON’T do? They won’t JUDGE. Not based on image. Men… Not saying 100%… But as a generality will NOT look at the handsome fuck in the middle dancing and making out with 20 chicks and say “he looks like an irresponsible prick!”. They will NOT look at the dork in the corner and say “what a loser….” … At least not while sober. Well in high school they might… Point is… While men follow their cocks to pleasure town, they let their minds decide what’s right and seem more unlikely to hold reservations based on image…. Particularly when it comes to another guy….Whether they listen to what’s right or choose to ignore is an issue for another day as well…
Women on the other hand, are more than eager to call the scantily clad girl in the club a “slut” …..
this… of course, is an afterthought… as I did just pass judgement and made a crude remark… then again… i have always been told i’m more effeminate…
